We are moving this month so not much time to blog. Also my Dad was in a car wreck last week. Don’t have many details, but he’s at OHSU and has had a couple of surgeries for a broken leg, smashed ankle, and some broken bones near the spinal cord. No spinal damage, although he came out of surgery not being able to move his upper torso.
My brothers and I have authorized an additional surgery which will hopefully correct the problem. Waiting to hear results.
This incredible performance DVD was recorded in front of a packed house of adoring fans at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on January 21, 2007.
On this, his first Music DVD, Donovan performed all his legendary hits and cult classics. Master filmmaker David Lynch introduced the concert held to benefit the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace; a program which funds in-school Transcendental Meditation programs for at-risk youth. Mike Love of the Beach Boys made a surprise appearance, and Donovan’s daughter Astrella Celeste performed alongside her father.
It was truly a magical night! I got this DVD on Ebay for under $10. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed.

Tomorrow (Thursday, July 23rd) at 10 PM Eastern, the cable network Showtime will be airing an episode of the Emmy Award-winning series, Penn & Teller Bullshit!, that will debunk lie detectors: co-founder George Maschke is among those who were interviewed for this show, and we encourage all who can to watch or record the episode for later viewing. The show will also be re-broadcast several times in the week after it first airs.

Penn & Teller Bullshit!, which stars comedic magicians Penn Jillette and Teller, uses both facts and humor to lampoon popular fallacies (from a skeptical, anti-authoritarian, and libertarian point of view). Part of the show’s comedic style involves (liberal) use of profanity and (occasional) nudity, so you probable won’t want to watch this show with young children present.

A new message thread for discussion of this lie detector episode has been created here (and will be updated with a synopsis of the program after it airs):

Best regards,

George Maschke

Tallan Nobel Latz

A 9-year-old who plays blues guitar? Sounds like perfect fodder for a talent show. With an interest in "rocky blues," this little soul man wows the audience with his technical prowess. As host Nick Cannon exclaims, "Tallan got talent!" The boy has class, too — he says he’d like to win the prize money so his mom can quit her job and they can spend more time together.

More Vacation Video etc.

Bought myself a brand new screamin fast computer Sunday night at Best Buy and have been busy installing software, transferring files, etc. That’s why I haven’t posted much lately. Not that I don”t have a lot to post about, believe that!
Anyway, I whipped out a quick video last week using some pics and video I shot on my vacation. This video is military themed. It’s footage I shot at Arlington Cemetary including the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and our visit to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD.
I wonder if some of you find it strange that out of all there was to see in the places we went I chose places like this. They weren’t necessarily places my girls wanted to go, but they did enjoy seeing this stuff none-the-less. We had just under ten minutes to hump the hill at Arlington up to the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. The girls were moving a bit slow so I went on ahead of them in order to catch the beginning of the changing of the guard ceremony. Made it just in time, but ended up on the wrong side. Had I been on the other side I’d have been able to shoot footage of the rifle inspection within four feet. Bummer!
Still, I got some decent footage. At one point in the video you will here a flyover of Navy jets for the funeral of Major General Cooley who died a week earlier with his wife in the DC metro crash. There was quite a crowd at the cemetary that day for his funeral along with protesters holding signs saying "don’t glorify the dead" or something like that.
The girls were ready to move on to other destinations by the time the changing of the guard ceremony was over so that was all we saw at Arlington. They didn’t care to see JFK’s eternal flame or other stuff there. I’ve seen it before anyway when I traveled to DC about 25 years ago. On that note much has changed at the cemetary since that trip.
Our visit to Annapolis was all for me. I’ve always wanted to see the place. Even had dreams as a young boy of being nominated for an appointment to Annapolis by my senator, but things just didn’t quite work out that way and I ended up joining the Marines just after I turned 17. Naturally, had I graduated Annapolis I would’ve accepted a commission in the Corps rather than the Navy.
Here’s the video and a few pics. I’m also including another video I stumbled across at YouTube of an Annapolis graduation. Wish I could’ve seen that live
Got a letter from Greg just before I left on my vacation. Seems Frank’s fed appeals attorney, Nell Brown, along with one of her investigators made a flight to Iowa for a visit with him. Greg was happy to share what he knows with her and is expecting to hear from her again soon.
Funny how Nigel Jaquiss and Nell Brown feel Greg is worth talking to, but Phil Stanford ignored him and Kevin Francke calls him unreliable even though he felt Greg was reliable years ago. I guess time will tell if Greg’s story will have any impact on Frank’s fed appeal.
Hmmm…I wonder if Nell will bother to talk to Ron Spier. On that note, I wonder if she bothered to talk to John Kevin Walker before he was released from prison recently. My guess is if she tried that Walker refused to talk to her. Hope I’m wrong.
And let’s not forget Johnny Crouse who is winding down his sentence in Nebraska.
Jane Says
Jane says
I’m done with Sergio
He treat me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says I don’t owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me
Try again tomorrow
I’m gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

Jane says
Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it
She knows
They all want her to go
But thats O.K. man
She dont like them anyway
Jane says
I’m goin away to spain
When I get my money saved
Gonna start tomorrow
I’m gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing but
She can’t hit
She don’t mean no harm
She just don’t know
What else to do about it

Jane goes
To the store at 8:00
She walks up on St. Andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket
Jane says
I never been in love
I don’t know what it is
She only knows if someone wants her
I want them if they want me
I only know they want me

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing man
She can’t hit
She don’t mean no harm
She just dont know
What else to do about it
